What do you feel the marketing department best prepared you for in your professional career?

The marketing department has prepared me for a ton of important experiences and challenges in my professional career thus far. However, the marketing department's focus and emphasis on presentations and public speaking was most helpful. I was constantly challenged throughout my marketing classes with presentations, public speaking opportunities, and interactive case studies. These have paid off a ton, as I am continually speaking with customers and colleagues. I believe the ability to effectively communicate is an invaluable skill and the marketing department did a great job in helping me prepare.

What experience(s) as a college student helped you pick the career path you are in?

My sales management class with Sam Williams and sales communications class with Jim McLean were monumental in my decision to start my career in sales. Both professors described the importance of sales, and how experience in sales is unteachable. I am quickly learning that they were right, as I have had the luxury of experiencing fast-moving, dynamic environments that I'll carry moving forward.

Any words of advice for future Eller Marketing majors?

I would advise future Eller Marketing majors to get involved! I urge you to join clubs like AdCats or the Eller Sales Club (or start your own)! They will provide you with real-life experiences, and networking connections. Eller's classes are great, however, you are limiting your growth if you do not broaden your involvement in Eller. Eller's resources and opportunities are world-class. Take advantage of them!

Can you describe a positive experience that you may have had with the faculty of the Marketing department?

Sam Williams had a great idea in his sales management class. He offered the class extra credit opportunity - creating a video cover letter for a particular job. I completed the cover letter video assignment, sent it into my current company, and soon after got hired. I believe my company really liked the extra effort and creativity. I want to thank Sam for that extra credit assignment!!
