What do you feel the marketing department best prepared you for in your professional career?

Marketing Research. As a student, I worked on several projects that required me to use various market research applications to explore our potential market. I still use the same applications throughout my day to day responsibilities. I work in a team environment almost daily as well. Working on projects with different people also helped me prepare for the projects I currently work on with my fellow co-workers.

What experience(s) as a college student helped you pick the career path you are in?

Fortunately, the U of A has a nationally recognized athletics program. Additionally, the Eller college provides their student with various organizations that work with sports. My affiliation with the Sports Marketing Association and Alpha Kappa Psi Business Fraternity, allowed me to get involved with projects that not only interested me, however were relevant to the career path I wanted to follow. From there, I gained internship opportunities that confirmed my passion for working in sports and assured me that I was pursuing the right career. 

Any words of advice for future Eller Marketing majors?

Marketing should be experienced in addition to being learned. You have so many opportunities to get involved with projects, groups and clubs, that will give you experience to make you a marketable candidate for employment. Get involved with clubs and get involved early. Try to intern somewhere where you think you may want to work, and make sure it is right for you.

Can you describe a positive experience that you may have had with the faculty of the Marketing department?

Every experience was a positive one. However, I had the opportunity to work on two sports related speaker series and a Sports Career Networking Luncheon. My involvement and coordination with these events not only gave me valuable experience, however established a "good word" for me within my industry. These events wouldn't have been possible without the direction and support of the marketing department. I am where I am today as a result of their help.
