Annually, the Eller College Department of Marketing has several events that help to celebrate our interest in innovative thinking:
Thinking Forward Marketing Undergraduate & MBA Student Events
Career Immersion Day
A series of team-based games designed to get students thinking about resumes and online job searches. Students also learn skills in assessing personal strengths in order to research industries and careers that might be the best fit for them. The event includes a round table networking event with business and industry representatives who give career advice to students. View an article on the event in the eller buzz.
A celebration of sales as a discipline and profession. Students hear presentations from sales executives across a broad spectrum of industries who discuss the inherent rewards in sales careers, as well as the value of having sales skills personally. The event was held on October 11, 2013 at the Marriott University Park Hotel.

Thinking Forward: Leadership & Innovation in Marketing Conference
This is an annual student centered conference for undergraduate marketing seniors and MBA students. Each year marketing professionals are invited to campus to speak to students about various topics in marketing. The 10th Annual Thinking Forward: Leadership and Innovation in Marketing Conference will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Marriott University Park Hotel.
Thinking Forward Awards
The Thinking Forward: Leadership & Innovation in Marketing Award is given in recognition of the ability to "think forward" and lead the next generation of responsible citizens and marketing professionals.
This award is not for the student with the best grade point average or most leadership or volunteer activities, but rather for students who exemplify the best combination of outstanding qualities across four categories:
- Academic achievements
- Leadership experience
- Volunteer activities and/or contributions to community and society,
- Work experience
In order to apply students must be undergraduate marketing seniors or 2nd year MBA students within the Eller College. Applications are reviewed in late fall/early spring. Winners will be announced and presented with a plaque following the annual Thinking Forward: Leadership & Innovation in Marketing Conference on Friday, March 7, 2014. Previous winners are not eligible to apply.
Students can apply to shadow a business professional. Students must be either a first year MBA student or a junior undergraduate student.
Thinking Forward Marketing Faculty and PhD Student Events
Lisle & Roslyn Payne Research Symposium
This symposium brings several internationally recognized marketing thought leaders each year to discuss high priority marketing issues as well as future challenges to the marketing profession, education, and research in marketing. The symposium is attended by faculty, doctoral students, MBA and exceptional BSBA students with an interest in the topics discussed. This event will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014.
Lisle & Roslyn Payne Outstanding Doctoral Student Award
This award recognizes accomplishments in research, teaching, and service to fellow students and is accompanied by a cash award.
