Eller Marketing Advances the Student Experience

The Department of Marketing at The University of Arizona's Eller College of Management aspires to be one of the top ten public university marketing departments in the U.S.

This requires increased stability and flexibility in funding streams. Although private support for the Marketing Department has increased significantly the last few years, we must establish endowments that will guarantee this support.

Continuity of funding will:

  • Institutionalize the innovative programs we’ve designed to attract exceptional students.
  • Buffer the cyclical funding pattern that characterizes legislative allocations for higher education in Arizona; programs gather strength over time and consistent levels of support are critical.
  • Help us meet the continued faculty recruitment and retention challenges as salaries and competition for talented marketing faculty increase.

How Eller Marketing Will Deploy Endowment Funds

The use of the proceeds is in three broad areas: faculty, students, and programs. Planned investments from the endowment campaign include:

Student Support

$3.35 million will be used for student-centered endowments:

  • Doctoral student fellows
  • Thinking Forward: Leadership & Innovation in Marketing Conference
  • Student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA)
  • Student chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF)
  • Annual awards for outstanding undergraduate and graduate students

Faculty Support

$3.65 million will be used for faculty endowments:

  • Endowed chair held by the department head
  • Endowment professorships (2 professors)

Program Support

$3 million will be used to provide programmatic operating support for the marketing department:

  • Faculty and student recruiting
  • Information technology
  • Teaching and research support
  • Doctoral student professional development
  • Promotion and public relations
