ResearchMichal Strahilevitz is an Assistant Professor of Marketing and Jon and Tammy Underwood Fellow in Marketing. She earned her Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of California in Berkeley and her MBA from Tel Aviv University. Professor Strahilevitz's research focuses on consumer behavior. Her recent projects have investigated how consumers choose between different investment options, how they choose between various charitable giving options and how they choose between different brand options. She also studies how men and women differ both in terms of how much attention they pay to word-of-mouth and in terms of the conditions in which they are likely to spread word-of-mouth. Her research has been quoted by the Boston Globe, the Chicago Tribune, Ms. Magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle. She has also appeared on several national television business news programs on stations such as CNBC and PBS. In terms of academic publications, her research has appeared in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Business Research, Marketing Letters and the Journal of Nonprofit & Public Sector Marketing. She is currently working on invited revisions for Management Science and the Journal of Consumer Research. TeachingProfessor Strahilevitz has recently taught Advertising Management, Marketing Communications, Consumer Behavior and Marketing Management at the undergraduate, MBA, and executive MBA levels. She has also taught International Marketing and Marketing Strategy. In addition, she has initiated and supervised multiple MBA and honors consulting projects, focusing mainly on nonprofit marketing, branding, marketing strategy and marketing communications. She has served on dissertation committees and supervised over a dozen honors thesis projects. Professor Strahilevitz has won multiple teaching awards at both the college and university level and at more than one university. This past year (2004) she received both a Teaching Innovation Award from the College of Management and the Teacher of the Year Award from the University of Arizona Chapter of the American Marketing Association. ServiceIn terms of service to the field, she serves as a regular reviewer for the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Retailing, Marketing Letters, Journal of Advertising Research and Journal of Advertising. She has served on the program committee for the Association of Consumer Research Conference and has chaired the Behavioral Decision Research in Management Conference. Currently, she is co-chairing the Society for Consumer Psychology Winter Conference for 2006 along with Baba Shiv of Stanford University and Dan Ariely of MIT.
