Major Program

While the basic program elements provide a strong foundation for the doctoral student, the Ph.D. program also affords each student the opportunity to pursue in-depth study of those special areas in which the student finds particular interest and where the student ultimately wishes to make an original research contribution.
The student's supervisory committee will work with the student in developing a major program in marketing which will provide a mix of coursework and educational experiences that will, consistent with the student's interest, equip him/her with the skills necessary to make an original and significant research contribution to the field of marketing.
The major program will typically involve two types of activities. First, students may enroll in advanced level seminars and coursework offered by the marketing department. Appendix II provides a list of elective courses offered by the Marketing Department. Second, students may elect to study with individual faculty members through courses of independent study and supervised research under appropriate course numbers as designated in Appendix II. These activities will allow students to work closely with faculty through specialized reading and research activities. A student is required to complete at least 6 credit hours of study in this category of the major program.
